(Starkville-AP) -- Mississippi State coach Jackie Sherrill says Kevin Fant is still a member of the Bulldogs, even though the quarterback has been a no-show for the final two weeks of spring practice. The Bulldogs held their final spring scrimmage today. Much of Sherrill's post-scrimmage news conference was spent answering questions about Fant. Fant last practiced with the team on March 29th. When Fant first started missing practice, Sherrill said the junior was being held out because of an abdominal injury. On Saturday, Sherrill said Fant was taking time off to get caught up on his school work. Sherrill says Fant is no longer Number One on the depth chart. But Fant will be given a chance to win the job during preseason practice. Kyle York, Fant's backup last season, has moved up to Number One. Fant has not spoken publicly about his absence. He and Sherrill were scheduled to meet with the media before Saturday's scrimmage, but that was called off Friday night. Sherrill says Fant decided he didn't want to speak with the media.
