FLOWOOD, MS (WLBT) - A couple of residents living at the Reflection Pointe Apartments in Flowood are worried about alligators in ponds near their apartment complex. They placed a call to 3 on Your Side, and WLBT went to check things out.
Mikki Malone and Bryan Miller, both of whom are residents of Reflection Pointe Apartments in Flowood, talked with WLBT Wednesday about the alligators.
They took us through a field, just west of the apartments for about 300 yards where they said apartment dwellers frequently walk, fish and spend time in the woods by two ponds.
Another apartment resident confirmed what Malone and Miller told us. There are at least four alligators in the ponds. Malone was concerned a small child or someone's pet could be harmed by the alligators.
"This is a highly residential and business area, and I am just afraid that someday someone is going to get hurt," said Malone.
Miller was also worried that someone could be hurt by the alligators.
"It's not a very far walk from the apartment complex to here, and the animals come up to the water all the time, when they are out you know. So, ah, I would hate for him to start taking small children and animals out of here," said Miller
WLBT asked Ricky Flynt, an alligator expert with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, to take a look at the one visible gator and tell us what he could do about it.
"If the landowner calls us and files a complaint, I could come out here and catch that alligator. I would obviously move him," said Flynt.
WLBT talked with at least three people who confirm there are at least four alligators in the ponds in Flowood.
