
JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - An off-duty Jackson police officer has suffered minor injuries following a shootout with a suspected car burglar.
It happened just after 1:00 Thursday afternoon in the parking lot of Tennessee Commercial Warehouse at 4315 Industrial Drive.
Police say the officer spotted a suspicious person walking through the parking lot. When the officer identified himself, the suspected car burglar pulled out a gun and began firing at the officer. The officer returned fire, striking the man multiple times. He was hospitalized, but police couldn't give us his condition.
The officer received a laceration to his hand from glass that was broken out of his SUV during the shootout.
Investigators say they found several stolen items in a vehicle the suspected burglar was driving.
The men's names are not being released at this time.
