JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A local church is spearheading an effort to bring more small businesses to the capitol city.
Members of New Horizon Church met with community leaders at Koinonia Coffeehouse in Jackson to talk about an initiative called the Jackson Business Accelerator Collaboration.
It's aimed at giving business owners resources for training and development, and matching young entrepreneurs with experienced mentors.
It stems from a state grant awarded to New Horizon to focus on promoting entrepreneurship.
"The idea is that we really don't have enough locally owned businesses in Jackson to provide the jobs we need for our community so this is really the result of the community coming together to figure out how we can develop new strategies to support small business and people who want to start businesses," said program manager Michael Harris.
