Students honored at Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Mississippi's most creative students were honored Sunday in Jackson.

Six hundred fifty top student artists and writers in sixth grade through high school were recognized Sunday afternoon at the Jackson Convention Complex.

It is the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards of 2010 regional competition held by the Mississippi Museum Of Art and the Eudora Welty Foundation.

Nearly 200 entries have been sent to New York City where they will contend in the national competition.

"I am really impressed with their teachers and the schools that commit to having art in school because they don't have to. It really takes commitment from a lot of people, but as our world becomes more and more visual and the work force needs to be creative these students have really bright futures," said Betsy Bradley, Director of the MS Museum Of Art.

The students participating at the national level have the chance to be awarded college scholarship money.
