JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The suspected car burglar involved in a shootout with an off-duty Jackson police officer Thursday has a long history of auto burglary.
This according to Mississippi Department of Corrections records. Which raises the question: Why was 24-year-old Fabian Chapman out of jail?
Most recently Chapman was arrested on four counts of auto burglary last year.
In March he was sentenced to five years in prison.
Hinds County Judge Winston Kidd suspended all five years, letting Chapman off on two years probation.
He didn't spend a day in jail.
That arrest also put him in violation of probation, from a auto theft conviction, where he served nearly three years in prison.
