JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Preparations are underway for what is considered one of the most important competitions in north America. The International Ballet Competition in June. The world class event is held in Jackson every 4 years.

The IBC features the finest dancers from around the globe. This year, 112 dancers from 34 countries will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. Many of the talented athletes will walk away with lucrative contracts with private companies.

The IBC  is considered a "festival of dance" celebrated world-wide according to Sue Lobrano, Executive Director.

"It's important to us because it makes us respected by the people who work and perform in the dance world community. So it's very important to have in Jackson. It created in 2006, a 7.5 million dollar economic impact just on the two weeks we had it here" said Lobrano.

The IBC opening ceremony is June 12 at Thalia Mara hall in Jackson. Ticket packages and single tickets are on sale through the IBC box office in Jackson. You can call  601- 973-9249 or go online at www.usaibc.com
