JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The Jackson Public School District tells 3 On Your Side Friday it is conducting an investigation into possible inappropriate conduct between students at Whitten Middle School. We have confirmed, the Jackson Police Department is looking into allegations of a sexual encounter.
Police will not divulge whether the incident involving a 13 year old girl and 16 year old boy was a sexual attack or consensual. They will not confirm if the alleged incident took place inside the school or on Whitten Middle School property.
When we asked a Jackson Public School District spokeswoman about the incident we were sent a written response.
It reads "Student safety is always a top priority in Jackson public schools, and we take our responsibilities to our students very seriously. We expect our students to adhere to the Code of Conduct, and any instance of infraction will be dealt with accordingly. The district is conducting a thorough investigation and will take appropriate action as may be needed according to our Code of Conduct. Because of student confidentiality rights, we cannot discuss the specifics of any incident that is a student discipline matter. Schools officials would not discuss specifics of the incident.
