Car slams into tanker truck, 2 killed

HINDS COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - The Mississippi Highway Patrol is urging drivers to slow down in construction zones after a deadly wreck Tuesday afternoon on I-55.  It happened in Hinds County south of Terry.

A black Toyota Camry was driving south in a construction zone when it slammed into the back of a water tanker truck.

Two people in the front seat of the car were killed. Rescue crews had to use the jaws of life to get the two back seat passengers out. They were taken to a hospital.

Highway patrol spokesman James Walker says drivers must reduce their speed in construction areas.

"The construction zone is well-marked. They've been doing this construction for quite a while now. People just slow down and give the workers a chance to do their job. Just pay attention to what you're doing in a construction zone."

The victims' names have not been released.
