GULF COAST (WLBT) - A third leak from the sunken Deep Horizon oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico is worse than originally expected.
Federal officials fear as much as 210,000 gallons are spilling into the sea every day. This number is five times more than previous estimates.
Clean-up crews are burning the oil at sea Thursday about 45 miles from shore to keep heavy black smoke from reaching land.
100,000 feet of protective booms have been put around fragile wetlands in Louisiana.
Governor Haley Barbour along with officials in Alabama and Florida are keeping a close watch on the oil spill should the winds shift, pushing the oil the coasts of those states.
Four Mississippians are among the missing.
