JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A South Mississippi father is in custody, accused of setting of a statewide manhunt for his son.
The AMBER Alert was issued statewide Thursday morning. Authorities out of Lamar County, desperately tried to locate 2-year-old Xavier Martin.
The little boy was last seen with his father Cedric DeShun Martin of Forest. Cedric Martin, was also wanted for kidnapping the boy's mother last week, physically abusing and raping her. He finally released her and fled with the child.
Law enforcement in Ridgeland got word he was spotted in the area and set up on highways and at shopping areas hoping to locate the father and son.
Just before noon, they were alerted that Cedric Martin turned himself in with his son, who was unhurt.
The suspect's surrender was orchestrated by Jackson attorney Richard Rehfeldt, who said the man just showed up in his office without explanation.
Cedric Martin was turned over to Lamar County authorities Thursday afternoon. The Mississippi Department of Human Services said Xavier will be taken to a local hospital to be examined.
WLBT was told his mother is already en route to Jackson to be reunited with her son.
