MEMA updates storm damage

PEARL, MS (WLBT)- State and federal officials conducted a damage assessment and released new numbers Thursday from the areas struck by the EF-4 tornado and severe weather on April 24th.

A total of 390 homes were destroyed or sustained major damage and 341 homes sustained minor damage or were affected in the following areas:

• Attala-26 homes destroyed, 14 major, 16 minor, 24 affected
• Choctaw-44 homes destroyed, 13 major, 17 minor, 34 affected
• Holmes-61 homes destroyed, eight major, 38 minor, nine affected
• Monroe-one home destroyed, 16 major, 28 minor, 13 affected
• Union-two homes destroyed, three minor, one affected
• Warren-eight homes destroyed, nine major, nine minor, ten affected
• Yazoo-107 homes destroyed, 81 major, 80 minor, 59 affected, nine inaccessible

 A total of ten people were killed in the storm system. There were 146 injuries reported to the State Emergency Operations Center.
