ST. LOUIS, MO (WLBT) - Tabbed a "long shot" for an NFL future, the most productive running back in the history of Mississippi college football is going to try his hand at professional football anyway.
Former Southern Miss star Damion Fletcher is among 2 Golden Eagles hoping to earn a free agent contract with last season's cellar-dwelling Rams.
Fletcher is joined by former offensive guard Ryan Hebert in the camp as both try out for an eventual NFL roster spot.
The Louisiana native, Hebert, was a two-year starter at guard and was named All-Conference USA First Team following his senior season.
Former USM running back Tory Harrison took part in the Green Bay Packers Rookie Camp this weekend.
Tight end Leroy Banks and offensive tackle Kyle Burkhart are the only Golden Eagles to sign NFL free agent contracts. Banks signed with the Atlanta Falcons and Burkhart joined the Seattle Seahawks.
