Hinds County supervisor deployed to Afghanistan

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A Hinds County supervisor is headed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

District 4 Supervisor Phil Fisher will leave for training at Camp Shelby in June, along with the 184th Expeditionary Sustainment Command of the Army National Guard. Fisher is a brigadier general and commander of the 184th.

On August 4th, the unit starts a year of active duty. After a stop in Fort Hood, Texas, they deploy to Afghanistan.

Fisher said he will continue to serve his district while he is in Afghanistan and will communicate with the board of supervisors and his constituents through email.
