JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Female students at one Jackson school shared breakfast Friday morning with some role models. resevoir
George Elementary hosted its 6th annual Women Empowering Girls Breakfast.
Hinds County district 3 supervisor Peggy Hobson-Calhoun was keynote speaker of this year's event, which had the theme "sharing and caring for the future."
She stressed the importance of the mother-daughter relationship. "Mothers help to mold and shape their daughters for the future," said Hobson-Calhoun. "And mothers also serve as the most important role models in their daughter's life."
School leaders said the event is aimed at encouraging and strengthening mentor relationships. "As it's always said, it takes a village to raise a child," said principal Dr. Mary Ann Bailey. "And this is our way of fellowshipping together and letting the children know we're all here for them."
At the breakfast, female students were joined by school adopters, community leaders and school board members, among others.
