Norman Bryant Invitational is underway

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The state's oldest match play tournament teed off Thursday morning in Jackson and a very competitive field highlighted day one.

There was plenty of sunshine and plenty of blue skies at the Colonial Country Club for the Norman Bryant Invitational.

Defending champ Trey Hulsey came in as the tournaments top seed and grabbed the early advantage over Jeff Murphy.

Past champion David Coleman is expected to challenge for another trophy as he opened play in fine fashion. David is facing Scott Rhodes, who made a great shot on 12. He chipped in for birdie to keep the pressure on Coleman.

Sixteen players are competing for the title and play runs through Sunday.

The first round is complete and Trey Hulsey will advance to play Casey Patterson.

Past champ Ricky Simms is moving on after defeating Lee Rhodus 4-2. Ricky will play David Sellers who advanced with his 1 up win over Wesley Rogers.

David Coleman was able to with stand the challenge of Scott Rhodus to advance to Friday's round to face Corey Mays.

And Justin Spratlin will meet Robert Willis after both scored 1 up victories Thursday.
