A local home improvement chain is making a big donation, to protect Yazoo City residents, should another tornado come their way.

Today the Lowe's in Madison stepped up and donated 500 AAA batteries to power Midland weather radios.

400 of the radios were delivered to the police department , but were never handed out because they didn't have the batteries to program them.

The weather radios are designated to go to nursing homes, schools, daycare's and hospitals, all places that are outside of where the tornado tore a path through town, a week ago.

Mike Anderson from Lowe's says, "We know that Mrs. Barbie Bassett talks about the importance of the weather radios and that way the community here, the schools, the hospitals, the nursing homes will be able to have the weather radios, so that they will be warned of upcoming weather conditions in the local area."

Officials from Midland weather radio will be going to Yazoo City to program the radios, in coming weeks.
