A Mississippi House member has now switched from a Democrat to a Republican.
Representative Scott Bounds announced his decision during a news conference at Republican Party Headquarters in Jackson Monday.
Bounds noted his "conservative philosophical and policy beliefs" as the reason for his change.
With Bounds, there will now be 50 Republicans in the house.
The chamber will have 72 Democrats.
Representative Bounds is from Philadelphia .
He has been in the Legislature since 2004.
