The mayor of Meridian has announced layoffs and furloughs within the city.
The move comes due to city revenues falling short for the current fiscal year.
Mayor Cheri Barry says 15 to 19 city workers will actually lose their jobs.
The rest of the employees will be furloughed one day each month.
The city's expenses have risen as tax collections declined.
City revenue fell from $14.1 million two years ago, to an estimated $12.6 million in the current fiscal year, which began October 1st.
Mayor Berry says no police officers or firefighters will be laid off.
But support staff in both departments will.
The head of each department will have to decide which positions to eliminate and which ones to keep.
