JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The weather held out somewhat on Saturday for an annual fundraiser on Mayes Lake in Jackson.
Canoe and kayak races are the highlight of Pickin' and Paddlin', which benefits the Neighborhood Christian Center.
Winners of a short race and a 1-K race receive trophies. The event also includes live bands and great good from local restaurants.
The Neighborhood Christian Center provides after-school tutoring and more for inner city children.
"During the summer, which this Pickin' and Paddlin' goes to fund, there are three different programs. We serve 200 inner city kids throughout the summer with education, reading, music classes, art classes," said Melody Moody, Director of Development.
Some of the children who benefit from the Neighborhood Christian Center attended Pickin' and Paddlin'.
