JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - When the City of Jackson gets loaded down with unclaimed merchandise, it holds an auction at the Jackson Police Department's impound lot.
On Saturday customers found unique items, like mini merry-go-rounds, go-karts, and 150 vehicles up for auction. The auctions are held periodically throughout the year whenever the lot fills up. If you win a bid, payment is expected right away.
The merchandise was abandoned or seized, or was stolen. "They follow the law. There's a state law that requires so much advertising, so much time lapse. They go through that process, once that is all cleared, then the city is authorized to sell it," says auctioneer Nick Clark.
The auctions raise anywhere from $50,000 to $150,000.
