JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A man chose to celebrate his 40th birthday by honoring a friend and helping others.
The birthday bash at Hal and Mal's Restaurant in downtown Jackson turned into a benefit concert. It was the very first "Rock For Diabetes."
Local bands took the stage and there was also a silent auction. Chris Blevins has Type II diabetes and a few months ago his good friend passed away from complications due to the disease.
"After what happened to him, and I've known other people with diabetes, I don't know. Something just hit me and told me hey do this, do something for somebody else," said Blevins.
Proceeds benefited the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi.
