Prayer vigils held for death-row inmates

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - One of two executions scheduled in one week took place early Wednesday evening.

Catholic Charities sponsored prayer vigils for inmates Paul Everette Woodward and Gerald Holland and their victims' families.  The first gathering was held Wednesday, and the second will be held Thursday at Smith Park in downtown Jackson.

At 6 p.m. Wednesday 62-year-old Woodward was put to death for the 1986 rape and shooting of 24-year-old Rhonda Crane.

At 72-years-old, Holland is the oldest death-row inmate in Mississippi.

He is scheduled to be executed Thursday for raping and killing 15-year-old Krystal King of Gulfport in 1987.
