TUSCUMBIA, Ala. (AP) - Police in Tuscumbia say six children from a Mississippi school used a plastic baseball bat to beat a duck and are charged with animal cruelty.
Tuscumbia police were called after a man reported seeing a group of children surround a duck in a park and beat it with the bat.
Sgt. Stuart Setliff says the children are in the 12 to 13 age range and were on a school outing Tuesday afternoon. He says the students were part of a large group from Kossuth School in Alcorn County.
Officials said Colbert County juvenile probation officers were notified of the charges and the students were released into the custody of their teachers.
Setliff says the duck was injured and wandered off with some other ducks.
