Still no charges in 14-year-old's death

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - An investigation is underway at this hour into the capital city's latest shooting death. It involves two teenagers.

A single gunshot was fired at a home at 6430 Abraham Lincoln Drive. That's in Presidential Hills in northwest Jackson.

Police say a 15-year-old boy shot 14-year old Michael Williams in the back. The Morrison Middle School student was rushed to a Jackson hospital, where he later died.

The shooter was taken to police headquarters for questioning.

Right now, investigators are trying to figure out what happened in the few minutes Williams and his friend were together before the shooting.

Residents in the neighborhood say this tragedy could have been prevented.

"People have to watch their kids more or something" said Kristie Davis, a neighbor. "Don't have weapons in the house and I know it's hard to keep in touch with your children when you're working but it's just hard. We need a strong neighborhood watch out here."

Right now, the 15-year-old has not been charged. Jackson police are describing the shooting as a "death pending" investigation.

They have not said what type of gun was used or who owns it.
