JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - You can help stock the shelves at Jackson's libraries to promote reading this Summer. A book drive kicked off Friday at the Eudora Welty library.

The United Way's "Pages of Promise" program is taking donated books that will go to Eudora Welty, Richard Wright, Medgar Evers, and Charles Tisdale libraries.

The program will also feature workshops on selected books, so students have the tools they need to complete their summer reading assignments.

Jackson is one of 12 cities nationwide targeted in the "Pages of Promise" program.  The ultimate goal is increase the graduation rate.

Organizers hope to collect 1,000 new or gently used books by the end of May.  A collection bin is at United Way headquarters on N. President St.   Donation bins are also at area McDonald's restaurants.
