JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The judge at the center of the Karen Irby case has no plans to recuse herself after Irby's attorney claimed she was biased in her sentencing.
Hinds County Circuit Judge Tomie Green sentenced Irby to 18 years in prison for her role in the drunk driving crash that killed doctors Mark Pogue and Lisa Dedousis.
Members of the victims' families spoke at the sentencing.
They asked the judge to give Irby the minimum sentence of two years.
Judge Green said she had received letters from dozens of people in support of Irby.
She read an imaginary letter she wrote on behalf of the victims during the sentencing.
Irby's new attorney has asked for a new judge and a new sentencing date.
