Local library launches job seekers' computer lab

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The Eudora Welty Library launched its "Get to Work" computer lab Wednesday.

The lab is only open to job seekers, and is designed to help them apply for work online. Job seekers don't need a library card to use the lab, but must show an ID.

With April's unemployment rate at 10.7 percent in the magnolia state, those using the computer lab said it's a helpful addition.

"This right here, we need this. Because most of the jobs are online now," said Johann McCarty, of Jackson, who has been searching for a job for about a month. "small things lead to bigger things, so if we can all get together and come in sometime, we can all make society better."

The lab will be open weekdays from 10 AM until noon and from 3 PM until 5 PM.

The Jackson Hinds Library System also plans to offer workshops on job interviews and resume writing at the Eudora Welty Library in the coming months.
