VICKSBURG, MS (WLBT) - Servicemen and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for this nation were honored in Vicksburg Monday.
The day began with the parade of veterans through downtown.
Then it was onto the city auditorium for a special Memorial Day program.
Colonel William Schneck, Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Plans (G5) for the 412th Engineer Command, was the keynote speaker. This year's theme was lest we forget.
"I understand and appreciate all the great contributions our veterans have made over the years and to get to discuss the heroism of the people who played such a key role in making our country what it is, is a real honor and a privilege," said Schneck.
After the program, the ceremony moved to the Vicksburg National Military Park where a wreath was laid at Fort Hill.
