VICKSBURG, MS (WLBT) - The Vicksburg National Military Park was a sea of red, white and blue Monday. Every year for Memorial Day, the park puts an American flag next to every grave.
There are approximately 18,000 soldiers buried there including two confederate soldiers.
Park staff members, along with help from community volunteers, like boy scouts and senior citizens, come together the Friday before Memorial Day to place the flags.
"We do this out of respect and honor and memorial for all the soldiers that fought for all wars. We take a lot of pride in doing this each and every year. In fact, the staff look forward to doing it," said Patty Montague, supervisory park ranger for the Vicksburg National Military Park."
