Ripley couple charged in statutory rape case

A man in Ripley, Tennessee is charged with raping a teenager and his wife is accused of helping him do it.

Michael Shaw was charged with two counts of aggravated statutory rape.  His wife, Linda Shaw, was charged with facilitation of rape.

Police said the disturbing crime played out inside a Ripley home in 2009.  However, the victim said she did not come forward until now because Michael Shaw threatened to hurt her.

Investigators said Linda Shaw convinced the teen's mother to let the girl sleep over and then watched the sexual assault happen.

Both Michael and Linda Shaw are being held at the Lauderdale County Jail.
