JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A Jackson socialite serving 18-years in prison is pushing to have her sentenced reduced because her former attorney was hired by her husband.
Thirty-nine year-old Karen Irby says her husband, businessman Stuart Irby, caused the 2009 wreck that killed two physicians, Mark Pogue and his fiancee Lisa Dedousis.
Irby's new attorney has asked for a resentencing hearing. The motion contends that Judge Tomie Green was impartial when the judge read a poem she wrote based on what she thought the victims would have said.
If the judge rejects the request, the case can be taken to the state supreme court.
