DOC officer indicted on embezzlement charges

HINDS COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - A former officer with the state department of corrections is facing charges of embezzlement and extortion.

Thirty-one-year-old Gerald Jones Junior of Edwards was arrested Monday following a six-count indictment by a Hinds County grand jury.

The indictment alleges while Jones was employed as a probation officer he took money in exchange for probationers being released from probation early.

Jones is out on $3,000 bond.

Trial is set for September 13.

He is also the son of Deputy Chief Gerald Jones with the Jackson Police Department.
