New FBI field office opens in Jackson

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Local and federal officials cut the ribbon on a new FBI building in Jackson.

Hundreds of people attended an opening ceremony Wednesday for the new FBI field office.

Officials said the previous building was getting too small for the growing Jackson operation.

The new 100,000 square foot building is located on Echelon Parkway. It's a "green," environmentally sustainable facility. And that's a growing priority for the federal government.

"The building is a model building in support of the president's and government's sustainability initiative, which is really important in light of the economy, energy, and climate challenges we're facing," said Shyam Reddy, regional administrator for the U.S. General Services Administration.

While Wednesday marked the "official" grand opening, FBI officials began moving into the new building back in November of 2009.
