JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The attorney for jailed Jackson socialite, Karen Irby, filed a motion to withdraw her guilty plea in the death of two doctors.
Irby, who is serving an 18-year prison sentence, claims her defense team, lead by her former attorney Joe Hollomon, misled her.
In court documents Irby claims her former counsel was "deficient on a number of fronts including, but not limited to representing Karen Irby while collecting funds, more than a half million dollars, from her husband Stuart Irby."
In an affidavit Karen Irby states that she told Hollomon that Stuart Irby was assaulting her just before the February 11, 2009 deadly crash, but Hollomon yelled at her and made her cry saying, "I don't want to hear anything else about that."
In response, Hollomon issued this statement which said, in part: "I worked zealously to defend Mrs. Irby from the first day I was retained... I do not want to make any public statement that could in any way harm Mrs. Irby... However, allegations have been put in front of the court and into the public discourse that are false."
Hollomon said he plans to respond in more detail later.
