JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - President Obama has nominated Mississippi Supreme Court Justice James Graves to serve on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

"Throughout his career James E. Graves has shown an unwavering integrity and an outstanding commitment to public service," said President Obama. "I am proud to nominate him to serve on the United States Court of Appeals."

Justice Graves has been a judge in the Mississippi court system since 1991, sitting for ten years on the Hinds County Circuit court.

Since 2001, he has served on the Mississippi Supreme court, first as an Associate Justice, and currently a Presiding Justice.

Graves has been nominated to fill the vacancy created last August, when Judge Rhesa Barksdale, also a Mississippian, took senior status.
