JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The sign at the entrance of Audubon Grove states it as a "luxury rental community." But according to some tenants there is nothing luxurious about living in the west Jackson apartments on Robinson Road..
"You got sewage coming out of the walls and mildew," said Timothy Walker. He lives in building F, right above two abandoned apartments. Both were wide open and anyone could smell a foul odor from outside. It could be coming from what appears to be raw sewage running under the foundation.
"You have a lot of flies around here and see yourself it is flowing out of the walls. So, therefore you know, it is a major issue. That's a sickness to us all," said Walker.
In building C, electrical wiring was exposed. The burned building was only partially boarded up. Tenants said their complaints have gone unanswered.
"They give you a little form if something is wrong with your apartment. You turn it in. They'll help you. People have been doing it, but they have taken their time doing it," said Julius Walls about waiting for complaints to be addressed.
WLBT approached the property manager in her office. She had us turn off our cameras before talking to us. She put us in touch with a spokesperson for the property owner, Marc Johnson, who lives out of state.
A representative for Johnson, Patti Horn, gave us this statement, "We just continue the improvement process. He has put a lot of money into bettering Audubon Grove Apartments. We're doing the best we can to make it a better place to live on a day to day basis."
