JACKSON, MS (WLB T) - Friday night kicked off a series of events to remember late Civil Rights pioneer Medgar Evers.
A gospel concert was held at Greater Mount Sinai Baptist Church on Bailey Avenue . This is the 47th year for the Annual Medgar Evers Homecoming Celebration. This gospel memorial service is held as a reminder of the life and assassination of Medgar Evers. Evers was murdered June 12, 1963 at his Jackson home.
Blues legend B.B. King is also honored during the celebration which continues through Saturday night at the annual banquet. The guest speaker is Judge Gregg Mathis.
The banquet will be held at the Masonic Temple on Lynch Street. A blues concert is scheduled for Sunday.
