Salvation Army Family Thrift Store reopens after extreme makeover

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - One of the Salvation Army's biggest money-makers is officially back open for business.

The organization's Family Thrift Store in Jackson closed last month for renovations.

Now, the store is better organized, and there's brighter paint, new flooring, and new display racks.

Representatives from the Salvation Army said they wanted to transform the atmosphere from that of a rummage sale to that of a department store.

"We're taking something that was a little dull and drab and we're changing it into something more exciting," said Cindy Cheeks, public relations officer for the Salvation Army.

The charitable organization said the new look has already brought in more customers.

"It will make a difference, and it already has in the sales. Our money has changed. It's growing. And people are still spending about the same, but more and more people are coming in," said Janet Spears, development director for the Salvation Army.

The Family Thrift Store is one of the charitable organizations biggest moneymakers.
