Byram has a new Chief of Police. Luke Thompson of Gulfport started the top cop job Monday for the growing city. Over the next year, Thompson will be responsible for the creation and hiring of a 25 man force.
The 36-year-old Chief told WLBT News Tuesday starting from the ground up will be a challenge. Chief Thompson previously worked with the Hinds County Sheriff's Department.
He is a former Sergeant with the Gulfport Police Department.
Law enforcement protection is currently provided by the Hinds County Sheriff's Department.
