SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (AP) - The city of Southaven has about 500 pink garbage containers for sale to raise awareness and money for cancer research.
Residents can buy the huge pink garbage cans for $5. Proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.
Cascade Engineering of Grand Rapids, Mich. supplied the cans. The company started its "Kick Cancer to the Curb" initiative with the pink cans earlier this month.
It hopes to sell 100,000 cans to raise $500,000 for programs to fight breast cancer.
Southaven Mayor Greg Davis tells The Commercial Appeal the city plans to replace all 200 garbage cans used at all city facilities with the pink trash cans. The $1,000 cost will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
