JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A Hinds County judge has refused to allow a woman serving 18 years in prison to withdraw her guilty plea to driving while drunk in a wreck that killed two doctors last year.
Circuit Judge Tomie Green ruled Thursday against Karen Irby, who pleaded guilty to two counts of culpable negligence manslaughter.
A motion filed by her attorney said Irby's former lawyer was more interested in representing her husband, who paid the $500,000 legal bill, than Irby, who blames her husband for the crash.
Green sentenced Karen Irby to 18 years on May 11, after the 39-year-old mother of 2 pleaded guilty in the crash that killed Drs. Lisa Dedousis and Daniel Pogue.
