GREENWOOD, Miss. (AP) - Greenwood Police Chief Henry Purnell says a 40-year-old woman has been charged with murder in a Saturday night stabbing, but it may have been an act of self-defense.
Purnell says 26-year-old Bryant Scales died at Greenwood Leflore Hospital from a single wound to the chest.
The Greenwood Commonwealth reports 40-year-old Carla Geneice Craine has been charged with murder.
Purnell said the couple apparently got into an argument and Scales struck Craine in the head repeatedly with a closed fist. Craine suffered a broken nose.
A short time later, Purnell said Scales attacked Craine again, and she pulled a steak knife from her pocket and stabbed him once in the chest.
Purnell said as the investigation continues, murder charges against Craine may be dropped.
