JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - As spring cleaning gets underway, local organizations are encouraging families to donate items they don't need.
Clinton's Home Instead Senior Care held a "white elephant" donation drive aimed at encouraging seniors and their families to clear out clutter.
The organization said many seniors hold on to items they've accumulated over the years that they no longer need.
"Seniors have a lot of valuable items that are there that could be utilized or could be turned into usable resources for others in the community," said Darron Byrd, franchise owner of Clinton's Home Instead Senior Care. "No sense in them being there as a tripping hazard for them in their home when they could be turned into something that's useful for someone else."
All donations will go to the 4 C's of Clinton, a non-profit organization that will use the donations to support its community outreach programs.
The organization is asking for donations of clothing, furniture, toys, and canned goods.
"It's a tough time when we don't have the resources and someone calls and says, I need some assistance with my electric bills because its hot, and we want to keep their electricity on. But if we don't have the resources, then we can't help them," said Laurie Lawson, executive director of the 4 C's of Clinton.
The donation drive runs from 7 AM until 6 PM Wednesday at Home Instead Senior Care at 807 Monroe Street in Clinton.
