JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Minister Isaac Young of the Capitol Street Church of Christ in Jackson believes Saturday night's fire was caused by lightning, but the fire department is still investigating the cause.

The fire badly damaged the church, and it will require substantial rebuilding.  Young, who has been at the church for 30 years, said he wants to stay in this location in the long run, but he is looking for somebody who will offer his 350 to 400 worshipers a place to go to church, temporarily, during the rebuilding process.

"We want to stay in this community because this is Capitol Street, the main street downtown, and certainly we want to be a plus to this community," said Young.

Young said he believes somebody will come forward and offer a facility to be used while the rebuilding process is ongoing.

"We know that somebody will come through and help us.  We believe that because all things work for them that love the Lord," said Young.  "And we believe God is good, and He is a just God, and we believe that He will bring us through this too.  This too will pass."

There was also extensive water and smoke damage to the building.

If you would like to get in touch with the church or make a donation, you can do so at P.O. Box 291, Jackson, Mississippi 39205 in care of Trustmark Bank.
