JACKSON, MS (WLBT) – More violence this weekend in the capital city.
J.P.D. Spokesman Sgt. Joseph Daughtry said 52-year-old Carl Moman was shot near the intersection of Capital and Longino Streets.
Investigators said Moman and his wife (name not available) were leaving a nearby laundry mat when two black males approached the wife and tried to take her purse.
According to police, Moman fought one of the men and fell during the struggle.
While on the ground Moman, the attacker pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots.
Moman was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.
The two men fled in a dark colored four door vehicle.
"Apparently they were walking to the vehicle when the individuals tried to snatch the wife's purse. Your life is not worth fighting over materials things. If someone tries to steal your purse or steal your vehicle, whatever, give it to them. You can replace a vehicle. You can't replace someone's life," said Sgt. Daughtry.
The wife was shaken up, but not injured.
Police said the robbers did not get away with the purse.
