Boil Water Notice lifted for most of Jackson

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The Boil Water Notice for the city of Jackson has been lifted for all but 200 households. Those households are in an area bounded by Boling Street, Northside Drive, Medgar Evers and Michael Avalon.

A news release from the mayor's office says The Health Department reported that 119 of 120 water samples taken Saturday from the city's surface water system were clear.

The one sample that came back positive for a contaminant was for a test site on Michael Clay Drive. A new sample is being taken and if the test comes back clear Monday, the Precautionary Boil Water Notice for the Northwest Hills subdivision will be lifted.

Water should be brought to a rolling boil for one minute for the following: cooking or baking, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, washing dishes, mixing baby formula or food, mixing juices or drinks feeding pets, and all other consumption.

Water does not have to be boiled for the following activities: showering, or washing clothes.
