Jackson, MS (WLBT) - A Rankin County volunteer firefighter is being commended for his bravery in a weekend fire.

It happened Saturday just before noon, at the West Quick Stop Gas Station in Star.

Star firefighter Mike Lee was the first to the scene. He used his personal truck to push a Mercedes that had caught fire, away from the gas pumps.

While he was pushing the burning car, Lee's own truck stalled out, then caught fire. Lee's Ford truck was destroyed in the process.

Lee and his wife Sadie-Diane have worked as volunteer firefighters for almost two years. He say's he is just glad to have prevented the gas pumps from catching on fire too.

"I give to my community; I love where I live, just try to help others," says Lee.

The Star volunteer firefighters are asking for donations to help Mike Lee get a new truck. If you would like to help, you can send them to the Star Fire Department, in care of Mike Lee, P.O. Box 70, Star, Mississippi 39167.

The incident was caught on video by 12-year-old Christopher Glass of Star.
