JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The Queen has spoken Wednesday. The Sweet Potato Queen that is. Jill Conner Browne and her band of followers will have their parade in the Fondren area next year.
Last March Browne parted ways after 28 years of marching with her friend Malcolm White in Mal's St. Paddy's parade.
She planned to move the massive party to the Renaissance at Colony Square in Ridgeland, but now she will team up with Jeff Good for a three-day festival and fundraising event that will raise money for Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital at UMC.
"We have a year-long fundraiser going on right now. There are over six thousand chapters of Sweet Potato Queens in 22 countries," said Browne. "So we announced it this year for the next year. They are to go back into their communities and raise money for our children's hospital."
Browne said she likes the idea of having the Sweet Potato Queen parade in the Fondren Business District because it's an up-and-coming area of Jackson.
