GULF COAST, MS (WLBT) - Mississippi senators Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker have announced Wednesday the state will receive a five-million-dollar grant to provide employment assistance for workers laid off because of the gulf oil spill.
The grant was approved by the U.S. Department of Labor.
About 300 workers are projected to be affected by the ongoing coastal crisis.
The grant applies to George, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Pearl River and Stone counties.
The funds will be used for employment services and long term training.
